New 2013 Lincoln Navigator Overview
The 2013 Lincoln Navigator offers full-size carrying capacity and full-size luxury.
Like the rest of Lincoln’s offerings, the Navigator is closely related to a Ford model in this case the Expedition full-size SUV, just with upgraded interior trappings. It is offered in Navigator and elongated Navigator L models (covered separately) that offer more cargo and passenger room. For 2013, the Navigator doesn’t see any notable changes.
The Navigator’s exterior styling has not shifted much over the years, with very straight, vertical sides and a large chrome grille up front that is highlighted by a large Lincoln logo dead center. Getting into the Navigator can be difficult; it has a rather tall entry point. Thankfully, power running boards that flip out when the door is opened for easier loading are standard. Also standard are a capless fuel system, power liftgate, 18-inch wheels (20-inch chrome rims optional), and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
Under the hood, the Navigator is powered by a 310-horsepower, 5.4-liter V-8 that makes 365 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while four-wheel drive is optional for those looking for more traction. When properly equipped with the Heavy Duty Trailer Tow package, the Navigator can tow up to 9,000 pounds with rear-wheel drive, or 8,700 pounds with four-wheel drive. Fuel economy ratings are predictably low for such a large vehicle: 14/20 mpg city/highway with RWD, 13/18 mpg city/highway with 4WD.
Inside, the Navigator offers two seating configurations. Second-row captain’s chairs are standard, which means seating for seven passengers, while opting for a second-row bench seat expands capacity to eight. The third row is powered and folds at the touch of a button. The Navigator’s cabin is awash in touches of class, including wood trim pieces located throughout and the analog clock found atop the center console. There is also plenty of standard technology, such as Sync which responds to voice commands, driver’s seat memory, a THX certified sound system, HD Radio, navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB/iPod port. Both the first and second rows of seats are heated, with the front seats also getting a cooling/ventilation feature.
Standard safety features include antilock brakes, electronic stability system, side curtain airbags for all three rows of seats, and front side-impact airbags. Also included, thankfully, are front and rear parking sensors as well as a backup camera which help maneuver the large SUV in tight spaces.
