New 2012 Hyundai Azera Overview
It’s hard to argue against a midsize sedan that adds a slight refresh to interior/exterior styling and two more powerful and efficient engines to what is an already stacked package. That midsize sedan is the impressive 2011 Hyundai Azera.
The folks at Hyundai improved the total horsepower and fuel efficiency of their two V-6’s, which now feature a 3.3-liter, 260-horsepower V-6 and a 3.8-liter, 283-horsepower V-6, which are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with auto-manual. Even though the 2011 Azera’s fuel economy improvements are subtle—every mile counts. The Azera receives 19-20 mpg in the city and 27-28 mpg on the highway and now comes equipped with an “eco” light in the gauge cluster that notifies the driver when the Azera is being driven efficiently. Competition in the midsize segment includes the Chevrolet Impala, Toyota Avalon and Ford Taurus.
A restyled front fascia includes a Genesis Coupe-like air damn under the lower bumper and revised headlights. Reshaped side mirrors, new LED taillights and sharper alloy wheels round out the tweaks to the exterior. The 2011 Hyundai Azera comes in two trims: GLS and Limited. Inside the 2011 Hyundai Azera receives a new brushed faux-metal trim under the controls. As nice as that is, interior space is perhaps the Azera’s greatest asset. Head and legroom are at the top of the class, as is the cavernous 123.5 cubic feet of interior volume.
Comfort features include power adjustable front seats and dual zone automatic climate control, while entertainment (on the base GLS model) is provided by a 172-watt, six-speaker audio system with CD/MP3 player and XM Satellite Radio. Heated leather seats and a power sunroof are optional. Those looking for a more dynamic listening experience can grab the Limited model and its 315-watt, 10-speaker Infinity® audio system with six-CD changer. The navigation option package includes a 605-watt, 11-channel Infinity® Logic 7® audio system that sports a dozen speakers.
