New 2013 Cadillac SRX Overview
The five-seat 2013 Cadillac SRX crossover is a family hauler that also offers an abundance of style and substance.
For 2013, the SRX got a light update that adds some styling tweaks inside and out and the addition of Cadillac’s new CUE user interface. On the outside, the changes are not so readily apparent. The grille is slightly deeper, but the most notable feature is the addition of vertical LED pipes in the headlight units that give the SRX more of an edge visually. They are similar to the units found in the new ATS sedan and we are big fans of the look. Otherwise, things are par for the course for a modern Cadillac – sharp angles, plenty of chrome, and an aggressive lean. Also new for 2013 are three new paint colors (green, blue, and silver) and optional 20-inch chrome wheels. One of our favorite exterior features is the optional UltraView sunroof which spans both rows of seats and has a power sunshade.
Under the hood, the SRX has only one engine/transmission combo: a 308-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 that is mated to a six-speed automatic and makes 265 pounds-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, but for those in harsher climates or buyers looking for a more spirited driving experience, all-wheel drive is optional. A sport suspension with real-time damping and an electronic limited-slip differential is also available. The SRX, surprisingly, takes regular gas so you can save a few dollars each time at the pump. Fuel economy figures check in at 17/24 mpg city/highway, dropping to 16/23 mpg with all-wheel drive equipped.
The biggest change for the 2013 SRX is the introduction of Cadillac’s CUE user interface which is now used to control the media and climate control systems. It replaces physical buttons with a touch interface that offers haptic feedback (small vibrations) and also adds an eight-inch touchscreen atop the center console. I had some hands-on time with the CUE system in the ATS sedan and while it can be cumbersome at first, it offers a lot of functionality including voice command recognition, weather updates, and phonebook access.
Standard interior features include HD radio, Bluetooth connectivity, USB/iPod port, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and leatherette seating surfaces. For those looking to spruce up the SRX even more leather upholstery, a rear-seat DVD/Blu-Ray entertainment system, and a navigation system are optional.
Six airbags, antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, and a one-year subscription to OnStar are standard. The 2013 SRX also adds several new high-tech safety options that use radar- and sonar-based sensors including forward-collision alert, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and front and rear automatic braking. A lane departure warning system alerts drivers when they’re making unintended lane changes by slightly vibrating the seat cushion, a non-intrusive way to keep drivers aware of their surroundings.
