Powering the A4 is Audi’s highly regarded 2.0-liter, 211-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This engine suffers from little or no turbo-lag for instant acceleration and maximum fuel-efficiency. The base A4 sedan utilizes a multitronic continuously variable automatic transmission and is equipped with front-wheel drive, while the other trims feature Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system and can be mated to a six-speed manual or eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The 2011 A4 achieves 21-23 mpg in the city and 27-30 mpg on the highway and competes with the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Infiniti G37. Available as either a sedan or wagon (Avant), the 2011 A4 comes in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims. For hauling the goodies from the grocery store or the hobby shop, the A4 comes equipped with a 12 cubic-foot trunk, and the A4 Avant expands that number to 17 cubic feet. Passenger accommodations are also superb, with front and rear headroom being superior to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. On the outside, the 2011 Audi A4 rests on standard 17-inch alloy wheels (18- or 19-inch wheels are optional), while a glass sunroof is also standard.
